Chapter 14

As she drove through the city, cursing all the idiotic drivers that got in her way, Olivia knew that she was making a decision that she couldn't undo once she made it to Red Bank.

She was nervous and excited all at the same time, feeling like a young girl again, she couldn't help but smile.  Her smile gets bigger when she reaches up and switches her car stereo from radio to CD and hears Jon belting out Living' On A Prayer.  That has been her feel good song since the first time she heard it.

When she pulled in at Jon's house, Copper was out running in the yard.  He greeted Olivia as she opened her door, with a low growl and a wagging tail.  She reaches out and pets him, "Good Morning, Copper.  How are you?"  She climbs out of her car, grabs her purse and pager and heads toward the door.  Copper right behind her.

She rings the bell and waits. So does Copper.  As they hear Jon approaching the door, both are getting excited.  Olivia has a case of the butterflies, and Copper is wagging his butt as fast as his tail will go.  He wants to get in and eat.

The door swings open and Jon is standing there, with a smile on his face.  Copper runs in and that's the last that they see him  for a while.  Jon says to Olivia, "Come in."

She steps in the doorway and Jon closes the door behind her, "How are you?"  Olivia starts with the small talk, "Have you calmed down from your dream?"

Jon leads her to the back patio where he has coffee, donuts and fresh fruit waiting.  He may not see her a lot, but he knows what she likes and he made sure that he had it.  "I have settled a little bit, it was quite unnerving."

"I'm sure it was.  I can only imagine." she confesses, "Have you figured out who the Spanish woman is?"

"No.  I haven't given her another thought." he points at a chair, "Have a seat."  She sits down while he pours her a cup of coffee.

"Thank you."

Jon sits across from her at the table, pours himself a cup and leans back in his chair.  "Thank you for coming down here.  It was actually quite a shock when you said that you were going to come."

Olivia sips her coffee, "I could hear that you were shaken by the dream."

"And that's why you drove down here, because you thought I sounded shaken?"

She nods, "Yeah, I've only heard you like that once before and that's when your dad had that stroke scare."

"It was pretty scary.  The dream was so real." he takes a sip of his coffee, "I can still smell the hospital smell, it was that real."

Olivia sits back in her chair, propping her feet up on the leg of the table.  She still has her scrubs on, she always changes her shoes before she leaves the hospital.  She looks at Jon and can't help but wonder what life would really be like to be with him.

"The hospital smell is one that sticks with you, that's for sure.  Are you sure that you're not smelling me?" she gives a little chuckle, throwing her head back.

"How was your night?" he asks her.

Sipping her coffee, holding her cup to her face, inhaling the aroma she smiles and says, "No one died, so it was a god night.  How was yours, except for your dream?"

He gets up and takes a few steps away from the table, "It was alright, I have no idea how long I slept on my desk."

"Get any work done?"

"None." he laughs, "Wait, I may have signed a couple of posters, I don't remember."  Olivia politely smiles at him and he has to ask, "Why are you really here?"

"I told you why."

"You came all of the way here because of my dream and the way that it affected me?"

"Yes, Jon.  Why are you questioning it?"

He takes a few steps toward her and says, "I know you well enough to know that that is no why you're here."

"What do you mean?"  she stands and takes a few steps away from him to lean in the small wall that was made out of brick, "I'm here because I was worried about you."

"Well, you can see that I'm fine."

She is appalled by that, really put off by the way that he said it, so in true Olivia fashion, she responds with, "Do you want me to leave?"

His frustration with their situation is mounting.  He thought that maybe he could get on without her, but for whatever reason she drove to New Jersey, well, that gave him a little hope.  "No, I don't want you to leave.  I want you to admit while you're here."

"I did."

"And that's it?"

"What do you want me to say?" she walks toward him, stopping in his personal space.  Olivia sets her coffee on the patio table to free up her hands and when they are free, she reaches up and takes a handful of his hair and kisses him.  She kisses him like she used to kiss him, when they were hot and heavy and she didn't care that she was his mistress.

"You can say that again." he smiles at her, "Over and over."

Olivia doesn't waste anytime, her arms are around his neck and with little ease she jumps up and wraps her legs around his waist and continues to tell him what she wanted to say, with her tongue darting in and out of his mouth.  His reception of her affection feels as wonderful as she thought that it would.  And she knows that it feels better than it used to because she could do it in broad daylight and she didn't care who seen it.
